Artist Statement:
The art training that was necessary for my career in commercial photography came from The Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles. I studied there 1946-48 as a benefit of the GI bill. I moved to Tulsa and established, Bob Hawks, Inc, a commercial photography business which allowed for wide diversification, ie, industrial, architectural, food, magazine editorial, etc. I enjoyed the freedom of this kind of photography for 40 years.
Soon after retirement, I discovered the art of woodturning, which has allowed for an endless variety of designs and techniques over the past 35 years. There is nothing more satisfying than taking a tree trunk and transforming it into a handsome turned vessel.
