Facets explores the way coded information relates to its visual representation. Hils is interested in exploiting digital and analog production towards a visually coded command-based output. He works with gathered digital information, altered digital objects, gestural relationships, and both biological and computational structures. Hils pieces together pixels, nodes, and points into physical manifestations of intricate assemblages with no particular beginning or end. His new work for this exhibition employs both 3D printing technologies and CNC routing technologies to form dense and intricate works of art that touch upon the visual mechanisms of code and digital interpretation of our environment.
This exhibition is sponsored by the Mervin Bovaird Foundation with additional support from the Kathleen Patton Westby Foundation.
